Women's ADHD Support Group in Maghull

A supportive therapist-led ADHD group for women in Maghull, welcoming women from Liverpool, Sefton, Kirkby, Crosby, Aintree, Ormskirk, Formby, Crosby and surrounding areas.

Are you a woman living with ADHD or wondering whether ADHD may explain some of the challenges you have experienced throughout your life?

This therapist-led ADHD support group offers a safe, supportive and confidential space for women to come together, share experiences and develop a greater understanding of themselves.

Many women spend years feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, disorganised or different from those around them. Whether you have received an ADHD diagnosis, are awaiting assessment, or simply identify with ADHD traits, this group provides an opportunity to connect with others who may have had similar experiences.

The group is held in Maghull and welcomes women from Liverpool, Kirkby, Ormskirk, Formby, Crosby and surrounding areas.

You do not need a formal ADHD diagnosis to attend.

Places are limited to help create a safe and supportive environment.

Understanding ADHD in Women

For many women, discovering ADHD can be both validating and emotional. Looking back, experiences that once felt confusing may suddenly begin to make sense.

Many women describe a lifetime of feeling "different", struggling with self-doubt, feeling overwhelmed by everyday demands, or constantly questioning why things seem harder for them than they appear to be for others. Years of masking difficulties, people-pleasing, perfectionism and self-criticism can have a significant impact on confidence and wellbeing.

This group has been designed to help women understand ADHD in the context of their own lives, develop greater self-awareness and self-compassion, and explore the emotional impact of living with ADHD alongside others who genuinely understand.

The Impact of ADHD on Self-Esteem

One of the themes I frequently encounter when working with women who identify with ADHD traits is self-criticism.

Many women describe years of feeling that they are somehow falling short of expectations. They may have spent much of their lives believing they are lazy, disorganised, forgetful or simply not coping as well as other people seem to be.

Repeated experiences of struggling with everyday tasks, feeling overwhelmed, missing deadlines, forgetting important things or finding it difficult to stay on top of responsibilities can gradually take a toll on confidence and self-worth.

For many women, understanding ADHD through a different lens can be a powerful and validating experience. Rather than viewing themselves as flawed or failing, they begin to recognise the challenges they have been navigating and develop greater self-compassion and acceptance.

One of the aims of this group is to help women understand ADHD in the context of their own lives whilst building a kinder and more compassionate relationship with themselves.

What Will We Explore?

The programme combines psychoeducation, guided reflection, discussion and shared learning within a supportive group environment.

Over six weeks, we will explore:

Week 1 – Understanding ADHD in Women

Exploring how ADHD often presents differently in women and why many reach adulthood without recognising its impact.

Week 2 – Masking, Perfectionism and People-Pleasing

Understanding the pressure to meet expectations, hide struggles and constantly strive to "keep up".

Week 3 – Emotional Regulation and Rejection Sensitivity

Exploring emotional overwhelm, self-criticism and the impact of feeling misunderstood or judged.

Week 4 – Relationships and Boundaries

Looking at the impact of ADHD on friendships, family relationships, work and communication.

Week 5 – Self-Worth, Identity and Self-Compassion

Developing greater understanding, acceptance and compassion for yourself and your experiences.

Week 6 – Moving Forward

Reflecting on what has been learned, recognising strengths and identifying ways to continue supporting yourself beyond the group.

Whilst each session has a theme, there will also be opportunities for discussion, reflection and connection with other women who may share similar experiences.

Why Join a Group?

Many women tell me that one of the most powerful aspects of understanding ADHD is realising they are not alone.

Whilst information and self-help resources can be incredibly valuable, there is something uniquely validating about hearing other women describe experiences that mirror your own.

For many participants, the group becomes a space where they feel understood without needing to explain themselves, offering connection, acceptance and the opportunity to learn from others who have faced similar challenges.

The aim of the group is not to "fix" ADHD, but to help women develop greater self-understanding, self-acceptance and confidence whilst building supportive connections with others.
